Aloha! I’m Jody Lee Jones.
Many refer to me as "Ma’alaea’s Specialist".

Ma’alaea has been my home & place of business since 1983. I’ve owned & operated 3 rental companies over the years, as well as owning a home & rental property. I’ve also had the tedious responsibility of assisting my, then, husband in the management of a complex in Ma’alaea.

I started out back in ‘83 with my own cleaning business. I remember having 7 toilets waiting to be scrubbed on the day of my honeymoon. After the wedding celebration the night before, that was the last thing I was looking forward to. That’s when I decided to use my brain instead of my back & I began devoting full time to real estate & rentals. My sales the first year exceeded 1 million and my rental units soon soared to over 120. I’ve since started my own real estate company & have 3 rental companies working for me. Now I’m not only able to sleep better, but later, too! That’s the upside to owning my own business!

‘Kimo’s Rules’

Never judge a day by the weather.

The best things in life aren’t things.

Tell the truth. There’s less to remember.

Speak softly & wear a LOUD shirt.

Goals are deceptive. The unaimed arrow never misses.

He who dies with the most toys, still dies.

Age is relative. When you’re over the hill, you pick up speed.

There are 2 ways to be rich: make more or desire less.

Beauty is eternal. Looks mean nothing.

No Rain... No Rainbows.

Before I got the ‘horse’ of a dog I have now, I used to walk my Yorkie down the road of Ma’alaea before dawn, enjoying the stillness & listening to the birds from the Banyan trees. Dusk was another perfect stroll. Then my Retriever grew from a cuddly pup to a cow and I had no choice but to relocate to a house in Kihei since I couldn’t afford the million dollar ones available in Ma’alaea. Besides I don’t think Ma’alaea is zoned for barns!!!

One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about Ma’alaea was the low-key village atmosphere. Peace & quiet, away from the traffic & the crowds, the fact that we were all one big family. I got so used to the seclusion that it killed me to have to drive 10 minutes to town. I’d make sure my list was thorough so I wouldn’t have to go back for a month! In fact, the order of the day was seeing who could be bribed to make a run for everyone!

"Does anyone need anything else? ‘Cause I’m NOT going back!"

It’s still much the same in Ma’alaea, just more amenities for those who spend big bucks to vacation on Maui & more variety for those of us who live here. Besides, it’s kinda nice to know that, with a gas station in the Triangle, that we won’t run out of gas trying to get to town!

The drawback to Ma’alaea (for some) is the wind. We’re located in kind of an isthmus between West Maui Mountains & Haleakala Crater, so the wind naturally travels thru. Most of us enjoy the breeze. However, there are those who don’t share our appreciation. About the only time it really bugs me is when I have to redo my ‘do’ for dinner that night. Or when I dress up & it goes up! In short, at times, the wind can be a pain in the bum!

Ma’alaea - Maui’s Best Kept Secret! Known to others as a place for the newlywed & nearly dead. That’s o.k. That line kept the population down for a long time. Now those same people are seeing what they missed all those years & what I was lucky enough to have experienced.

Sound a little prejudiced? Well, I am!

Jody Lee Jones

P.S. - If you prefer staying in Kihei, and you're looking for a small, private place to rest your head and don't need an ocean view, my friend Shawn owns a small, well-appointed cottage called Coconut Maui Cottage. Tell her Jody sent 'cha!
